AIRIS CORP TO BUILD AIR CARGO COMPLEX AT MIAMI INTERNATIONAL
Airis Corp. has received approval to design, build and lease a
$110-million, 564,000-square-foot air cargo complex at Miami International Airport.
The project, to be located on Eastern U Cargo Complex on the airport’s
southwest side, will house the corporate headquarters and an adjoining cargo facility for
LanChile Cargo Airlines, as well as a separate cargo building for Fine Air Services.
LanChile’s space will provide 387,000 square feet of specialized air
cargo processing facilities and 44,000 square feet of administrative
offices. Fine Air’s building will house 133,000 square feet of cargo space.
LanChile was the leading cargo airline at Miami in 1998, handling
240,000 tons. The South American airline’s volume is expected to grow 12 to 15 percent
annually, said Rodrigo Gana, director of cargo services/North America for LanChile.
It will be the first major air cargo project developed by a third party
at Miami International. Construction is to begin in December and will take 18 months to
complete.
