Alabama Port Authority selects engineer for intermodal facility

The Alabama State Port Authority said on Friday that an engineering firm has been selected for a new intermodal container facility planned for Mobile, a move port officials see as a step toward significantly increasing container traffic at the Port of Mobile.

The port authority board of directors awarded a $4.2 million engineering design and construction management services contract to HDR Inc., for the proposed Intermodal Container Transfer Facility at Choctaw Point.

'This contract for HDR to design and ultimately manage the construction of the rail intermodal terminal accelerates our phased construction of Choctaw Point Terminal,' port director and CEO James K. Lyons said.

HDR Inc. is a full service architectural and engineering firm based in Omaha, Neb.
