Alliance to promote Anchorage’s air cargo advantages

The newly formed Alaska AeroNexus Alliance is looking to ensure that Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport remains a strong airfreight hub.

The newly formed Alaska AeroNexus Alliance will look to ensure that Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport remains a strong hub for air cargo, the group said.
The alliance will identify strategic investment opportunities and needs, such as infrastructure and workforce training. Anchorage is currently ranked the second largest airfreight hub for trade between the United States and Asia.
In addition, Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport is part of the Alaska International Airport System, a partnership with Fairbanks International Airport. The combined airports provide each other with backup support and services to international air cargo carriers using the system.
The AeroNexus is composed of the Alaska International Airport System, the municipality of Anchorage, and the Anchorage Economic Development Corp. The three organizations said through the alliance they will “plan and coordinate common action, leverage resources and aggressively pursue economic opportunities and investments from instate, national and international business interests.”
“We are optimistic about the opportunities the new partnership will bring to the state,” said Bill Popp, president and chief executive officer of the Anchorage Economic Development Corp., in a statement.
