APL LOGISTICS EXPANDS IN CHILE
APL Logistics said it has established a wholly owned operation inn Chile, the supply chain management provider's third expansion in Latin America this year.
The Oakland-based company has experienced double-digit growth in its Chilean logistics business over the past 12 months, 'reflecting a strong demand by global, regional and local manufacturers and retailers for efficient distribution capabilities,' said Luis Perez, vice president for Latin America, based in Miami.
In Chile, the company operates more than 300,000 square feet of warehouse space, controlled by its proprietary inventory management system, the Total Logistics System. The new subsidiary employs about 270.
Sister company APL provides ocean container shipping to Chile, with links to Asia, North and South America and other regions in the world.
APL Logistics, which earlier this year expanded in Guatemala and Honduras, now has offices or operations in 27 cities in 16 Latin American and Caribbean countries.
