APL Logistics snares intermodal vets

APL Logistics said Wednesday it has hired veterans of C.H. Robinson and Schneider International for key land transport posts in the United States.

Jerry Plummer, formerly of C.H. Robinson, has been appointed to the new head of business development for highway services, while Mike Deegan, formerly of Schneider, will be general manager of the same unit. APL Logistics said it is “gearing up for significant growth in U.S. intermodal transport of containerized cargo and highway truckload shipments.”

Aside from leading APL Logistics’ sales effort in highway services, Plummer will also have overall commercial responsibility for land transport services – including truck and rail cargo – in the Pacific Northwest. Those services include both truck and rail cargo transportation. Plummer has previous experience with the Western Pacific Railroad and RISS Intermodal before joining C.H. Robinson.

Deegan, who had a previous stint with APL Logistics prior to joining Schneider, will manage the company’s stable of highway motor carriers. Plummer will be based at APL Logistics’ Americas headquarters in Phoenix, Ariz., while Deegan will be based in Chicago.
