APM Terminals outlined its plans to further expand the Poti Sea Port by adding two new deep water berths able to handle 9,000-TEU vessels.
APM Terminals plans to add two new deep water berths able to handle 9,000-TEU vessels at the Poti Sea Port in Georgia.
This phase of the port’s overall expansion is scheduled for completion in 2018.
Since purchasing Poti Sea Port in April 2011, APMT has invested over $70 million into the port. In May 2013, a grain processing terminal opened at the port that has potential to handle 500,000 tons a year of capacity. Last year, APMT opened the Inland Container Terminal at Poti.
“At completion, the fully built-out mega-port will have an annual cargo throughput capacity of 50 million tons and 2 million TEUs,” APMT said in a statement. “With a water depth of up to 16 meters the port will be able to accommodate the largest vessels calling the Black Sea.”
