Associated Grocers to use Port Everglades FTZ
Officials from Port Everglades said Tuesday that Associated Grocers of Florida is enhancing its 750,000-square-foot warehouse in nearby Pompano Beach by joining Foreign Trade Zone No. 25 at the port, providing the opportunity for duty-free or reduced-duty moves on some products.
The move comes after Broward County commissioners sponsored what is known as a Minor Boundary Modification of FTZ 25 to designate a 52-acre non-contiguous site where the warehouse is located to become part of the free trade zone. That also means the grocery company will receive and ship more cargo through Port Everglades, while 'retaining and creating new jobs and investing in local buildings and equipment,' a statement from the port said.
Associated Grocers is a warehousing and distribution company that manages a cooperative serving independent grocers in Florida, as well as in 46 countries throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. The port said Associated Grocers annually does more than $100 million in international business and $600 million in domestic business.
