BA OPENS PERISHABLES CENTER AT HEATHROW
British Airways’ World Cargo division has opened a 69,000-square-foot
perishables freight handling facility at London’s Heathrow airport to further the
company’s expansion into the trade.
The new facility is part of BA’s $24 million investment in developing
its perishables business, which the airline said generates some $71 million a year.
The new operations will be run by Salvesen Logistics, which has been
working for the airline since July 1998. The facility at Heathrow’s Hattan
Cross Business Park is designed to handle 100,000 metric tons of freight a year.
