BELGIUMÆS LA POSTE, ABX LOGISTICS DEVELOP EXPRESS PACKAGE SERVICE
Belgium’s La Poste and ABX Logistics plan to cooperate in the distribution of package and express deliveries in the weight range of 2 to 30 kilograms.
ABX Logistics, a division of the National Company of Belgian Railways will provide its parcel delivery service, computer system and sorting service to the service, while La Poste will contribute its Express & Package Business Unit. La Poste is also developing a system, which will be launched by the end of the year.
The new company will first focus on the Belgian freight market and expand to other European and international markets over time.
“It remains for the respective Boards of Directors to approve the industrial project,” the companies said. “This will take place very quickly.”
The companies plan to begin the package and express delivery service by June 30, or by Sept. 30 at the latest.
Under previous management, La Poste had discussed similar joint ventures with the Netherland’s TPG and France’s La Poste. La Poste decided to favor “an industrial solution within Belgium… The unique location of Brussels shall be exploited to a maximum.”
