Construction works on a new deep-water port in Anaklia, Gerogia, is scheduled to commence Dec. 20, the Anaklia Development Consortium has revealed.
The preparatory phase for the construction of the Black Sea Georgian port started in 2016. During this phase, Anaklia Development Consortium chose SSA Marine to be the port’s container terminal operator.
In addition, Van Oord conducted preparatory marine engineering, including geotechnical, topography and other research for the construction of the port.
The port will provide a fast route for shippers seeking transport between Chinese and European markets. Phase 1 construction will be complete within three years of groundbreaking, creating a port capable of handling post-Panamax size ships, according to the Anaklia Development Consortium’s website.
