BNSF Railway Co. has agreed to sell its main rail line between Belen, New Mexico and Trinidad, Colorado to the New Mexico Department of Transportation for $76 million.
Under terms of the agreement, BNSF will keep ongoing freight easement rights on the line, which the New Mexico DOT will operate as a commuter line. The DOT will also acquire a 13-acre portion of BNSF’s Albuquerque rail yard property.
The sale of the line is expected by early next year.
