BP, HES International to develop tank terminal in Rotterdam

Situated at the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam, the terminal will store and transport liquid bulk, including diesel, gasoil and gasoline.

BP and HES International signed a long-term contract to develop a tank terminal at the Maasvakte in Rotterdam, according to a joint press release issued Tuesday by the Port of Rotterdam Authority and HES International.
The tank terminal, dubbed the HES Hartel Tank Terminal, will be an independent storage facility for liquid products such as diesel, gasoil and gasoline.
The cost of the terminal and nautical infrastructure “amounts to hundreds of millions of euros,” and the immediate future focus will be on licensing procedures, the release said.
Once approved, construction will commence in 2018 and the terminal is slated to open in 2019.
So-called “clean petroleum products” will be stored at the terminal in 5,000-50,000-cubic-meter tanks, and the terminal will allow blended products, additives and homogenized cargo as well.
In addition to transport by pipeline, loading and unloading of the tanks will be done via vessel. Very large crude carriers (VLCCs) with a draft of 21 meters will be accommodated at a new quay in the terminal.
