Sometimes you just can’t beat farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, but it isn’t always convenient to make it to your local farmers market. That’s where Market Wagon steps in.
On this episode of At Your Doorstep, Kaylee Nix talks to Nick Carter, co-founder and CEO of Market Wagon, about how his platform is combining fresh produce with e-commerce delivery.
The idea began deep in the agricultural center of Illinois but is spreading through the Southeast with the goal of connecting farmers, bakers, restaurants and makers with more customers. Carter also said small farm-to-table restaurants typically incur a lot of down time during nonpeak hours, so his platform can help them reach customers ordering even when tables aren’t full.

You need to delve deeper into Market Wagon. Not all vendors are actually growing what they sell. They are resellers. Meaning they buy their produce in bulk and resell it for a profit. The produce is not “farm fresh”. They (some of the vendors) buy the same products chain stores buy (i.e. Walmart, Meijer, Kroger). Seems that telling customers they are getting produce from farms to their tables is misleading. Market Wagon does nothing to ensure that any of the items sold are actually farm fresh or grown locally.
