The U.S. Council for International Business (USCIB) has formed a special committee within its membership to address the threat that illegal trade poses to global markets and industries.
The Anti-Illicit Trade Committee, which will be chaired by David M. Luna, president and CEO of Luna Global Networks & Convergence Strategies, will take a “comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach” to fighting back against illicit trade, corresponding to the recent work by the OECD’s Task Force on Countering Illicit Trade, Business and Industry Advisory Committee to the OECD and the International Chamber of Commerce’s Business Action to Stop Counterfeiting and Piracy (BASCAP) initiative.
“Today, global illicit markets account for several trillion dollars every year, and many experts predict that the value of counterfeit and pirated products alone will double within five years.” said Rob Mulligan, USCIB’s senior vice president for policy and government affairs, in a statement.
