CANADA PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEE ASKED TO REVIEW CN-BNSF MERGER
While the proposed merger of Canadian National and Burlington Northern Santa Fe has been stalled by a 15-month merger moratorium by the U.S. Surface Transportation Board, Canadian officials are moving forward.
Canadian Transport Minister David Collenette has asked the House of Commons transport committee to review the proposed merger, Reuters reported late Wednesday.
Collenette asked the parliamentary committee to examine the public policy impact in Canada of the merger, and whether the deal would be in the public interest and consistent with national transportation policy.
He requested a report from the committee by the end of the year.
The proposed merger is already being reviewed by the government's Competition Bureau.
