Car carrier, chemical tanker collide near Busan

A car carrier collided with a chemical tanker off South Korea’s southeast coast on Sunday, causing the tanker to catch fire, but press reports say 91 crew members on the two ships were rescued safely, though some suffered “light burns or abrasions.”
A report in the Korea Times said the ro-ro ship Gravity Highway collided with the chemical tanker Maritime Maisie, which was carrying 29,337 tons of chemicals about 9 nautical miles from Busan. It said about 4,000 tons of chemicals were lost from burning.
The Maritime Bulletin website said Gravity Highway is under construction at Hyundai Mipo Shipyard and was on a sea trial. Photos on the website show extensive damage to the midsection of the tanker.
