Airfreight throughput at Hong Kong International Airport fell for the sixth straight month in August 2015.
Cargo volumes at Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) fell 1.2 percent to 361,000 tons in August 2015 compared with August 2014, according to the most recent data from the airport.
HKIA, the world’s busiest airfreight hub, has seen year-over-year declines in cargo throughput in each of the last six months.
The airport attributed the continued decrease in volumes primarily to a 5 percent year-over-year drop in transshipments.
“Exports registered a slight growth while imports decreased by 1 percent compared to the same month last year,” the airport said in statement. “Amongst the key trading regions, Mainland China and Taiwan registered the most significant drop in the month. Traffic to/from Europe grew most significantly compared to other key regions.”
