CBP to hire 2,000 additional officers

U.S. Customs and Border Protection is seeking to fill 2,000 additional officer positions at air, land and sea ports across the country.
“As a result of funding provided in the fiscal year 2014 budget, 44 ports in 18 states will receive additional staffing to enhance security, help reduce wait times and facilitate growing volumes of legitimate goods and travelers that are critical to the health of our nation’s economy,” the agency said in a press release Thursday.
CBP officers are federal law enforcement officers and are required to wear uniforms and carry firearms in the performance of their duties. They carry out a range of inspections, passenger and cargo analysis, and law enforcement activities related to the arrival and departure of travelers, freight and conveyances such as cars, trucks, planes and ships at U.S. ports of entry.
