As of Thursday, CenterPoint was only awaiting permits to start on the long-anticipated Seaport Logistics Complex at the California port.
Industrial real estate company CenterPoint Properties could begin construction on a logistics complex at the Port of Oakland this summer.
CenterPoint Properties said Thursday that it was only awaiting permits to start on the port’s long-anticipated facility, known as the Seaport Logistics Complex, according to the California port.
The Port of Oakland called the 440,000-square-foot facility “the linchpin of the port’s future,” a distribution hub that will drive additional containerized cargo across Oakland’s docks.
“We’re eager to get underway with this project,” CenterPoint Chief Development Officer Michael Murphy said. “We like the port’s vision, and we see this partnership as the future of shipping and logistics.”
Port of Oakland Executive Director Chris Lytle told CenterPoint board members that with the new facility, “You’re so close, you’ll be able to throw a rock to our marine terminals and railyard.”
CenterPoint has approved a jobs agreement that gives Oakland residents first crack at employment.
