CHINN TO HEAD U.S. SHIPPERS ASSOCIATION

CHINN TO HEAD U.S. SHIPPERS ASSOCIATION

The U.S. Shippers Association has picked John S. Chinn to be its executive director.

Prior to his appointment, Chinn spent 19 years at Allentown, Pa.-based Air Products and Chemicals in various management positions. He was the company’s international distribution manager for the past eight years.

Shippers’ associations allow shippers to combine their freight volumes to secure lower rates and better service from ocean carriers.

U.S. Shippers Association was created 15 years ago by three chemical companies. Today, the group comprises Air Products and Chemicals, AKZO-Nobel Chemicals, Angus Chemical Co., Arch Chemicals, Aventis Crop Science, FMC Corp., Lyondell Chemical Worldwide, NOVA, Shell’s Pectin Chemicals, Phillips Chemicals, Rhodia and Solvay Minerals.

Chinn has been president of the association for the past five years. With the active membership, the association has never had an executive director. But increasing requirements has compelled the U.S. Shippers Association to seek an executive director.
