Circumference America reports strong intermodal growth

Circumference America handled 1,339 shipments of truckload and intermodal freight in the fourth quarter of 2007, compared to 3,758 shipments in its first full year of operations, ending Sept. 30, 2007.

The Jacksonville-based company’s intermodal subsidiary Radius Rail fueled much of the freight increase. Radius handled 748 shipments or 56 percent of the quarterly total, compared to 1,061 shipments during its first year of operations, which was 28 percent of the full-year total.

“In the last quarter of 2007, Radius Rail grew at twice the rate of our truckload division, which also had a strong showing,” said Mike Steele, president and chief executive officer of Circumference America, in a statement. “We contribute this success to the market’s growing interest in intermodal as a significant transportation mode.”

Circumference America offers third-party, non-asset-based truckload, less-than-truckload, expedited and intermodal services. It does this through a combination of operating companies, which includes Radius Rail, Vertex Transport and as agents for Sunteck Transport Group.
