Clothes and cars for K + N in India
Global logistics company Kuehne + Nagel said Wednesday it has tied up a deal with French apparel retailer Celio for domestic warehousing and distribution services in India.
The three-year deal is with Celio Future Fashion Ltd., a joint venture between the French company and its Indian partner Future Venture India Ltd. established in 2009.
'To cater to the growing demand for its products and to cope with its fast expansion in the country, the company requires scalable and flexible logistics solutions from a professional provider,' K + N said. 'The services provided at Celio's warehouse Bhiwandi near Mumbai include receipt, physical inspection and put away of inbound cargo, order planning, pick and pack, distribution as well as value-added services such as bar code scanning.'
Meanwhile, K + N also said it has recently opened an automotive solution center in the auto manufacturing hub of Pune, India.
'The facility relates to Kuehne + Nagel's similar setups in Bremen and Shanghai, and represents a further step in the company's commitment to offering specialized solutions for manufacturers and suppliers,' the company said. 'Pune has become the hub for automotive logistics in India since a lot of headquarters and manufacturing facilities of automotive companies are located here.'
The center will provide vendor managed inventory, just-in time and just-in-sequence deliveries over milk runs and cross-docking through to solution designing, emergency handling, network engineering and continuous improvement initiatives.
Kuehne + Nagel operates 38 locations in India, employing roughly 1,200 people.
