The European Commission granted approval for the acquisition of the short sea service provider June 29 without any conditions.
Ocean carrier Oldenburg-Portugiesische Dampfschiffs-Rhederei GmbH & Co. KG (OPDR) joined the CMA CGM Group effective July 1, as a subsidiary of MacAndrews, CMA CGM said in a statement.
The European Commission granted approval of the acquisition June 29 without any conditions.
OPDR, which specializes in short sea maritime service and door-to-door logistics solutions, operates four different services between:
- North Europe and the Canary Islands
- South of Spain and the Canary Islands
- North Europe, Spain and Portugal
- North Europe and Morocco
MacAndrews, which was acquired by the CMA CGM Group in 2002, offers railroad, road and maritime transport solutions. The carrier offers container transport on short sea lines and European multimodal service between the Iberian Peninsula, United Kingdom, Ireland, the Netherlands, Scandinavia, Poland, Baltic States and Russia.
In 2014, OPDR transported around 200,000 TEUs, while MacAndrews transported over 230,000 TEUs.
“OPDR and MacAndrews capacities combination are in line with the densification of the regional network strategy of the CMA CGM Group,” CMA CGM said of the acquisition.
