CMA CGM starts Port Everglades/Central America service

CMA CGM kicked off a new service Thursday between Port Everglades and Central America.

The new service offers Thursday departures from Port Everglades, calling Puerto Barrios, Guatemala, on Sundays and Puerto Cortes, Honduras, on Mondays. CMA CGM is offering the service from Port Everglades through a space charter agreement with APL's Central America Express (CAX) service.

CMA CGM, which has been active in the Caribbean islands trades for years through its Cagema affiliate service, got into the Central America trade in January 2007 with a weekly service from the Port of Miami to Puerto Cortes and Santo Tomas, Guatemala, using a single 300-TEU vessel.

The France-based carrier is now serving the Florida/Central America trade exclusively through the new Port Everglades service.
