CMA CGM will begin calling the port of Buchanan in Liberia with its PC North service March 24, the company said.
The French container carrier said it is the first shipping line to call the city, located 100 kilometers south of the capital, Monrovia, in 20 years.
“This new call primarily responds to the needs for the export cargo of wood, rubber, palm oil and minerals produced in the area of Buchanan,” the company said. It will also carry around the world from CMA CGM’s hub in Tangiers.
Beginning this month, the PC North service will operate four ships with a capacity of 1,600 TEUs in the following rotation: Tangiers, Nouakchott, Banjul, Freetown, Monrovia, Buchanan and Tangiers.
