CN BOOSTS DOMESTIC INTERMODAL SERVICE IN CANADA
''''Canadian National said Monday it has launched four new domestic intermodal trains linking Toronto, Montreal, Moncton and Halifax. the railroad said the new services will be competitive with over-the-road trucking operations.
''''CN is targeting the expedited intermodal service to customers shipping time-sensitive products, such as retail and grocery stores as well as parcel and less-than-truckload carriers.
The new domestic intermodal services benefit from faster transit times, later cut-off times, scheduling and tight terminal operations. Trains run six days a week, Monday through Saturday.
''''A dedicated Toronto/Moncton/Halifax train bypasses Montreal, improving transit time. The train has a late evening cut-off in Toronto, with trailers and containers available in Moncton for pickup at 11:30 the next day, six hours ahead of the previous schedule. Toronto/Halifax shippers also benefit from a later cut-off in Toronto and have 6 a.m., second-day availability at Halifax. The Montreal/Halifax lane also has 6 a.m. availability.
''''The new services complement recent improvements in CN's transcontinental intermodal schedules between Toronto and western Canada.
