CN unveils ægreenÆ chassis
Canadian National Railway said it will roll out an innovative chassis in April that it expects to reduce fuel consumption by 8 percent to 10 percent for trucking of CN containers to and from its intermodal terminals.
The “EcoRide” chassis has several features that CN said would reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. These include side skirts to reduce aerodynamic drag, a weight that is 15 percent less than a conventional CN chassis, and low-rolling resistance tires on each axle instead of the normal four tires per axle. CN said it will debut this new chassis in Ontario.
