COAST GUARD WANTS INDUSTRY CRITIQUE OF MTS REPORT
The U.S. Coast Guard is seeking industry feedback on seven regional summaries which review the progress of the Transportation Department’s Marine Transportation System report.
The MTS report, which was released to Congress in September 1999, reviews the status of the country’s waterways and ports and their links to the intermodal system. Excluding cargo from Canada and Mexico, more than 95 percent of U.S. foreign trade is transported by sea, and 14 percent of U.S. inter-city freight is transported by water.
The regional summaries are available on the Internet at http://dms.dot.gov . The Coast Guard said comments on these summaries from the industry are due by Nov. 30.
