COLUMBIA COASTAL ADDS 912-TEU CONTAINER BARGE
Columbia Coastal Transport LLC, the U.S.-flag coastwise container
service, will adding a 912-TEU barge to its fleet in January.
The Columbia Elizabeth, which Columbia Coastal says is one of the
largest container barges ever built, will be deployed in the carrier’s
U.S. Gulf service between the ports of Houston and New Orleans.
Built by Gunderson Inc. in Portland, Ore., the deck cargo barge is
specially fitted to carry 20-, 40- and 45-foot containers, including
reefers.
The new barge expands the carrier’s fleet to 11 ships and expands it
container-carrying capacity by 16.7 percent to about 6,300 TEUs.
New Jersey-based Columbia Coastal offers weekly and twice-weekly coastwise
service, linking ports in the Northeast, mid-Atlantic, Southeast, Gulf and feeder services
to and from Freeport, Bahamas.
