COMPANIA SUD AMERICANA ENTERS ATLANTIC TRADE
Compania Sud Americana de Vapores, the big Chilean shipping line, will enter the transatlantic trade mid-May.
Frank Pieber, owners’ representative in Europe, said that CSAV will start a weekly container service by taking space from DSR-Senator.
Under the slot-charter agreement, CSAV will take 100 TEUs a week on DSR-Senator’s “All Water Pendulum Service” on the North Atlantic route.
The service calls at Felixstowe, Bremerhaven, Rotterdam, Le Havre, New York, Norfolk and Savannah.
With its existing services connecting South America to both North America and Europe, CSAV is already active in the U.S. and in northern Europe.
The entry of CSAV in the trade folows reports that freight rates have recovered from the very low levels reached in 1998 and 1999.
