The first meeting of the Port of New York/New Jersey’s Port Performance task force is scheduled for today.
The port authority earlier this month established the advisory group of industry stakeholders to identify problems with the efficient movement of cargo and to recommend solutions. The task force will examine areas such as terminal optimization, drayage operations, intermodal equipment, and public relations. Patrick Foye, the port’s executive director, said the new initiative
was formed to provide an industry roundtable where all port constituents
can discuss their common interest: efficient performance at the Port of
New York and New Jersey.
Participants include terminal operators, ocean carriers, labor, truckers, maintenance workers, and other constituents; representatives from labor management and the New York Shipping
Association will serve as vice chairs.
Recommendations from the various working groups are tentatively expected to be completed in January.
