COSCO orders 11 containerships with 19,000 TEUs capacity each

The ocean carrier placed newbuild orders worth an estimated $1.5 billion at four shipyards that are to be delivered in 2018.

   China COSCO Holding Co. Ltd. has ordered 11 containerships, each with capacity of 19,000 TEUs from four shipyards for a total of about $1.5 billion.
   The orders are with Dalian COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd (DACKS), an indirect subsidiary of COSCO, which will build two of the ships for $270.6 million; Nantong COSCO KHI Ship Engineering Co., Ltd (NACKS), a company 50 percent owned by COSCO and 50 percent owned by Japan’s Kawaski Heavy Industries, which will build four of the ships for $541.2 million; China Shipbuilding Trading and Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, subsidiaries of China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), which will build three of the ships at the Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding yard for $418.5 million; and China Shipbuilding & Offshore International Co., (CSOC) and Dalian Shipbuilding, subsidiaries of China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC), which will build two of the ships at Dalian’s yard for $279 million.
   The ships are to be delivered in 2018.
