CP launches new perishables service

Following the 2017 purchase of 41 generator sets for reefer containers, Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) has begun offering a new shipping service for perishable products, dubbed “CP TempPro.”

Canadian Pacific Railway (CP) is launching a new perishables shipping service called “CP TempPro.”

Canadian Pacific Railway Ltd. (CP) has launched a new service for the transportation of perishable products.
The service, dubbed “CP TempPro,” follows CP’s purchase of 41 generator sets (gensets) for refrigerated (reefer) cargo containers in 2017. Gensets are used to power reefer containers while in transit, as normal power sources generally are not available.
In addition, CP said it will invest in more than 400 new 53′ reefer containers in an effort to meet growing demand for temperature-controlled goods transport.
According to CP, the railroad will also be the first to use Thermo King’s SLXi-DRC model refrigeration system, which features a slimmer design, allowing for two additional pallet positions in a shipment, and utilizes a more environmentally friendly refrigerant compared to its predecessors.
CP said the new TempPro offering will focus on transporting goods that require strict temperature settings, including pharmaceuticals, beverages, confectionary, dairy, seafood, fresh produce, fresh and frozen meats, and other frozen foods.
“CP is committed to giving our customers everything they need as one total transportation product, which is why CP TempPro is a great addition to our roster of services,” said Jonathan Wahba, vice president of sales and marketing for CP’s intermodal and automotive segments. “Great customer service is imperative to what we do at CP. We have listened to our customers and have learned that efficient, timely and reliable access to our network is paramount to expanding their business, and ours.”
