Crowley acquires second LNG-ready, Jones Act product tanker

The U.S.-owned and operated marine solutions, transportation and logistics company took delivery of the second of the four LNG-ready, Jones Act product tankers from Philly Shipyard, Inc. last week.

Crowley Maritime Corp. last Wednesday took delivery of the vessel Texas, the second of the four new LNG-ready, Jones Act product tankers, the ocean carrier said.
All four of the product tankers will be built by Philly Shipyard, Inc., previously known as Aker Philadelphia Shipyard, Inc.
The 600-foot long product tankers, which have a 50,000-ton deadweight and a 330,000 barrel capacity, are equipped to carry crude oil or refined petroleum products.
Based on a Hyundai Mipo Dockyards design, the product tankers incorporate several fuel efficiency features, flexible cargo capability and the latest regulatory requirements.
Crowley’s Seattle, Wash.-based naval architecture and marine engineering subsidiary, Jensen Maritime, is providing construction management services for the vessels.
The Ohio, received by the ocean carrier in October, was the first of the four Jones Act product tankers. The remaining two product tankers are expected to be delivered in 2016.
