The China Shipping ultra-large containership has been stuck in the channel leading to and from the Port of Hamburg for nearly a week now.
The China Shipping ultra-large containership CSCL Indian Ocean remains grounded in the River Elbe despite several attempts to dislodge the vessel.
The 19,100-TEU ship ran aground in the channel leading to and from the Port of Hamburg at around 10 p.m. local time on Feb. 3.
Several unsuccessful attempts have been made to free the vessel, which was en route to Hamburg’s Eurogate Container Terminal, and authorities are now focusing their efforts on a window provided by a spring tide expected on Tuesday.
The ship has discharged its ballast water and dredgers have been working to dig out some of the sand and sediment from alongside the vessel in the hope it will be easier to move.
