Shanghai Jiangnan Changxing Shipbuilding will build the China Shipping Container Lines vessels, which are scheduled for delivery in 2018.
China Shipping Container Lines said Thursday that it has ordered eight 13,500-TEU containerships for $116.8 million each, or a total of $934.4 million.
The first ship will be delivered no later than April 30, 2018 and the last by Dec. 31, 2018, according to a statement from the ocean carrier.
The ships will be built by Shanghai Jiangnan Changxing Shipbuilding.
CSCL is ranked as having the seventh largest fleet of owned and chartered container ships in the world by Alphaliner, which says the order would increase China Shipping’s fleet capacity by 15 percent beyond the 702,592 TEUs it deploys today on a total of 139 ships (482,386 TEU on 67 owned ships and 220,206 TEU on 72 chartered ships).
CSCL is a member of the Ocean3 Alliance, along with CMA CGM and United Arab Shipping Co., cooperating of the major east-west trades.
