CSX Intermodal links Buffalo with ports
CSX Intermodal said it started two new services last week connecting its new Buffalo, N.Y., terminal with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey's on-dock rail terminal in Newark and Elizabeth, as well as Philadelphia.
CSXI said it would increase its presence in the Buffalo and Toronto markets.
The company said some cargo may be eligible for incentives offered to container shippers by the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey.
CSXI President Jim Hertwig said the service would help shippers “seize the opportunities presented by long-term trends shaping freight flows today, like all-water routes to the East Coast and regional intermodalism.”
“We commend CSX Intermodal for its efforts to introduce new shorter-haul services at East Coast ports that will allow ocean carriers to leverage the many advantages of rail when moving goods to their final destination,” said Gordon Dorsey, senior vice president, USA operations manager for Maersk Line.
