CSX NAMES WARD TO BOARD
CSX Corp. has elected Michael J. Ward, president of CSX Transportation Inc. — the Richmond, Va.-based company's main unit — to its board of directors.
Ward is the first president of CSXT to be named to the board, excluding John W. Snow, chairman, president and chief executive officer of CSX Corp., who simultaneously served as interim president of CSXT.
Ward took over as president of CSXT in November 2000, a troubled time for the Jacksonville, Fla.-based railroad. CSXT struggled with integrating the portion of Conrail it acquired, while dealing with charges by the Federal Railroad Administration of safety violations.
However, with CSX's first-quarter results, reported Wednesday in the Shippers NewsWire, the railroad has posted eight consecutive quarters of improved year-over-year results.
Ward previously served as executive vice president of CSXT from 1995 to 2000. He joined Chessie System, a CSX predecessor company, in 1977.
