CSXÆS TRANSFLO EXPANDS RAIL-BASED LOGISTICS SERVICES
Transflo Corp., a business unit of CSX Corp., said it has added two rail logistics services devoted to the metals, pulp and paper, lumber, packaged consumer goods industries.
The new services and their functions are:
* Metalnet, a multimodal transportation and distribution networked aimed at the metals industry. The unit promises to deliver truck-competitive, single-factor rates for door-to-door movements of metal products. Services range from basic transloading to supply chain management provided through more than 100 facilities, offered via a single bill. Kevin Goins joins Transflo to manage the Metalnet business. He was national accounts manager-metals, with CSX Transportation. Transflo said Metalnet handled more than 40,000 rail carloads in 2001.
* Transmode, a multi-modal logistics network providing supply-chain services for the pulp and paper, lumber and packaged consumer goods industries. Transmode uses more than 250 rail-served public distribution centers, handling more than 3.5 million tons of products annually throughout the eastern United States. Tom Helock joins Transflo to manage the Transmode business. He comes from CSXT, where he was senior manager, warehouse marketing and logistics.
Transflo said it is also developing new logistics services tailored to meet the needs of customers whose supply chains may be enhanced through the inclusion of rail extended services. Tom Eilers, director of Transflo logistics services, will lead the logistics products. He joins the company from CSX Lines where he had more than 25 years of logistics and supply chain management experience, most recently as director-retail and consumer products.
Transflo handled more than 75,000 carloads of bulk commodities through its network in 2001.
