CUSTOMS AUTHORIZES RE-USE OF AIR WAYBILL NUMBERS

The U.S. Customs Service on Friday issued a final rule authorizing the re-use of an air waybill number on an air cargo manifest after one year has elapsed.

The new rule goes into effect Sept. 30.

Current regulations prohibit the re-use of an air waybill number for three years after it has been used on an air cargo manifest.

Customs said the comment period on the notification of proposed rulemaking relevant to Friday’s ruling ended April 30. Only one comment was received.

For more information on the ruling, contact Robert Scholtens of Customs’ Office of Field Operations at (202) 927-3459.
