Cargo transportation on the Yangtze River will be take longer than normal because of annual maintenance on the Three Gorges Dam that began on February 2, according to China COSCO Shipping.
The impact on feeder transport is expected to last three to four months, but COSCO said its Panasia subsidiary will increase vessel capacity while the work is being done in order to accommodate any additional demand.
For time-sensitive shipments Panasia offers a service operating with vessels that can use ship elevators at the dam, COSCO said.
The company also has a river-rail intermodal service by which shipments are transported by barge to Wuhan port before being moved by rail to Chengdu and Luzhou.
