Damco opens Djibouti outlet
Damco, the supply chain services and freight forwarding arm of the A.P. Moller – Maersk Group, said Friday it has opened a new office in Djibouti.
The company said it expects to garner business through the Horn of Africa, including from landlocked Ethiopia, through the new office, its 32nd in sub-Saharan Africa.
“Trade through Djibouti has grown steadily over the years, and we believe that there is a gap here in terms of complementing this growth with a professionally managed company providing efficient landside services,” said Mandeep Singh, head of Damco's Djibouti operations. “One of the exciting developments witnessed in the Ethiopian market is the huge growth in Floriculture. Previously, customers were reliant on air freighting flowers to the global market in Holland — now, we will be able to run reefer containers via land from Addis Ababa into Djibouti and from there, via ocean freight, to Rotterdam.”
