DANZAS STEPS UP INTERMODAL OPERATIONS
Danzas, the logistics arm of Deutsche Post World Net, has recently published its “Review of Intermodal Transport,” a document explaining how the use of rail and road modes can be combined to expedite cargo shipments.
Danzas said it ships 60 percent of its trans-Alpine freight in Switzerland by rail, and intends to expand that volume. “European freight operations, particularly transit shipments across the Alps, are facing a huge challenge,” Danzas said. “Growing bottlenecks are caused not only by the burgeoning freight volume triggered by expansion of the European Union, but also by the widespread closure of railway lines in years gone by.”
Danzas said it has been trying to get its shipments off the roads for years. In the Nordic countries for example, Danzas is already reporting annual growth rates of 7 percent in rail freight volume.
Based in Bazel, Switzerland, Danzas is a provider of Information technology-supported logistics solutions in worldwide air and ocean freight and global project forwarding.
