Deutsche Bahn’s freight rail operation will purchase 60 new locomotives from Siemens at a cost of about $250 million euros, and use the equipment in its European cross-border services.
DB Cargo, the freight rail operation of Germany’s Deutsche Bahn, will purchase 60 new locomotives from Siemens at a cost of about $250 million euros ($295 million), the company said in a statement.
The locomotives, which will be used for DB Cargo’s cross-border European operations, are part of a master agreement with Siemens to acquire up to 100 new main-line locomotives.
The first five locomotives will go into operation as early as December 2017, while the remaining 55 are scheduled to be delivered in the second half of 2018, the German railway said. They will be used on the Rhine-Alpine corridor in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, and the Netherlands, and beginning in 2020 in Belgium.
