DHL adds three cold chain centers to European network

DHL Freight has opened cold chain distribution centers in Lyon, Milan and Madrid.

DHL Freight has opened certified Life Sciences and Healthcare Competency Centers in Lyon, France; Milan, Italy; and Madrid, Spain this past month.
The new cross dock centers, which form part of the forwarder’s less-than-truckload cold chain network in Europe, will serve the rising demand for temperature sensitive biologics and specialty drugs, DHL said in a statement. Agheera, a DHL Freight sister company, provides the IT platform CoolTrack, which allows monitoring of cargo temperatures using GPS.
An additional cold chain distribution center in Budapest is scheduled to open within the next couple of weeks.
DHL’s ColdChain service runs twice a week. “The central routing of cargo takes place via the cross-docking center in Mechelen (Belgium) from where shipments can be further transported under predefined temperature conditions (2-8° Celsius or 15-25° Celsius) to 30 countries in Europe,” said DHL Freight.
