DHL expands Morocco gateway facility

DHL Express has opened a $7.85 million cargo facility at the Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca, Morocco, designed to provide greater connection between the North African country and Europe through a daily overnight flight to and from Paris' Charles de Gaulle International Airport.

The 6,800-square-meter facility, DHL's largest in Morocco, includes 3,455 square meters of warehouse space, eight full-size Unit Load Device sorting positions, a strategic parts center for automotive and high-tech customers, and a temperature-controlled area to handle sensitive pharmaceutical and life science products. It can handle up to 4,000 shipments per day.

DHL said the facility is equipped with the latest security features, including two X-ray machines, an access control system for personnel, and more than 30 closed-circuit TV cameras.

France is Morocco's largest trading partner and trade between Morocco and the European Union has grown steadily in recent years, DHL said in explaining why it made the investment.

DHL uses its own dedicated aircraft between Europe and Morocco.
