DHL Express expands Thailand operations

The international express parcel carrier will invest $5.3 million in 2015 for infrastructure, technology, and customer service development in Thailand.

   DHL Express, part of Deutsche Post DHL Group, will increase its investments in physical infrastructure and services in Thailand to 180 million baht ($5.3 million) in 2015.
   According to a statement from the company, the increased investment is intended to “deliver business growth and enhance service quality” and “underscore DHL’s commitment to offer best-in-class air express services and solutions to customers in Thailand.”
   Portions of the increased investment capital will go toward relocating DHL Express Thailand’s head office, expanding of DHL SERVICE POINTs and building a new service center. DHL Express Thailand has also recently introduced a customer experience management program to complement existing customer loyalty programs and enhance customer satisfaction.
   DHL Express said it experienced strong growth in several sectors during the first quarter of 2015, most notably in its small and medium enterprise segment and electronics.
   The company has been expanding its footprint in Asia with recent investments of 85 million euros (U.S. $92.8 million) in its South Asia Hub in Singapore, 153 million euros in its North Asia Hub in Shanghai, 67 million euros for its cargo gateway in Tokyo, and 8.9 million euros for a service center in Ho Chi Minh City.
   “Our major strategic initiatives in Thailand are aligned with Deutsche Post DHL Group’s Strategy 2020, which aims to define the Group’s next phase of development,” said Yasmin Aladad Khan, senior vice president of DHL Express in South Asia. “With the vision of becoming a company that defines the logistics industry, we believe our investments in facilities, network and people in a growth market like Thailand will enable us to not only lead the industry but become a provider of choice. This robust investment also reflects DHL’s confidence in the long term stability of the Thai economy and logistics sector.”
