DHL opens German pharma facility

DHL Global Forwarding spent $4.41 million to expand its pharmaceutical footprint.

   DHL Global Forwarding has opened a 3,000-square-meter pharmaceutical facility near the Leipzig/Halle Airport in Schkeuditz, Germany.
   The 3.4 billion euro ($4.41 million) development includes a 2,175-square-meter warehouse with two temperature-controlled areas. According to officials, the facility will serve air and ocean regional customers as well as serving as an air transshipment hub for pharmaceuticals routing to Germany, Poland and Slovakia.
   “With the opening of this new life sciences and healthcare competence center, we are further expanding our network of temperature-controlled stations to support our customers’ global expansion and growth aspirations,” Angelos Orfanos, president of life sciences and healthcare at DHL Customer Solutions and Innovation, said in a statement. “Providing quality service to life-saving products is a big responsibility, which we are committed to by continuously investing in sector-specific expertise and infrastructure.”
