DHL opens logistics center at Amsterdam-Schiphol

The forwarder established the new temperature-controlled logistics center for life science and healthcare products.

   DHL Global Forwarding opened a temperature-controlled logistics center at Amsterdam-Schiphol for life science and healthcare products.
   Referred to as the Life Science Competence Center, the new site took an investment of 1 million euros (U.S. $1.1 million) and covers 1,000 square meters.
   The logistics center, which is run by 14 specially trained logistics specialists, serves as a hub for the transport, transport preparation, temporary storage and transport follow-up of active and passive temperature-controlled pharmaceutical and medicinal products.
   One area is dedicated to pharmaceutical products requiring storage between 2 degrees Celsius and 8 degrees Celsius (35.6 degrees Fahrenheit and 46.4 degrees Fahrenheit). The second section is designed for goods requiring storage between 15 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius (59 degrees Fahrenheit and 77 degrees Fahrenheit). In addition, the logistics center features a special temperature-controlled loading area with a loading dock for both unit load devices and pallets.
   “The logistics center will also provide DHL Thermonet, the standard product of DHL Global Forwarding for managing temperature sensitive air freight shipments,” the company said. “DHL Thermonet provides seamless temperature visibility along the supply chain, 24/7 proactive monitoring and intervention based on pre-determined touch points and DHL’s RFID SmartSensor technology.”
