DHL opens new facility at Melbourne Airport

The international express parcel carrier opened the DHL Express Melbourne Gateway facility at the Melbourne Airport to better serve regional businesses that operate in and out of Australia.

DHL Express opened the A$20 million (U.S. $14.66 million) DHL Express Melbourne Gateway facility at the Melbourne Airport to better serve regional businesses that operate in and out of Australia.
DHL said in a statement it is the only express logistics company at the Melbourne Airport with airside access to provide direct links to airlines and cargo terminal operators.
The DHL Express Melbourne Gateway facility, which can process over 53,000 kilograms of shipments each day, includes 8,600 square meters of open areas, 5,300 square meters of warehouse space and 915 square meters of office space.
The facility is equipped with two X-ray machines, three telescopic conveyors and an onsite LED panel to monitor flight data.
Five primary outbound trade lanes that will benefit from the DHL Express Melbourne Gateway facility include New Zealand, China, the United States, Singapore and Hong Kong.
“We’re seeing strong growth in exports from Melbourne, hence the need to more than double our previous facility,” said DHL Express Oceania Senior Vice President Gary Edstein. “Almost 30% of our Australian volume currently passes through the Melbourne Gateway, highlighting the trade requirements the Victorian state demands.”
